How Much Money Can You Make Blogging? The Honest Answer.
I started this blog four months ago. I have 90+ posts published. I’ve been rejected by AdSense three times. My total blogging income so far: $0.
So when someone asks me “how much money can you make blogging?” — I don’t give them the influencer answer. I give them the real one.
Here’s what the actual data says about blogging income in 2026 — broken down by stage, niche, and strategy.
The Real Numbers — What Bloggers Actually Earn
2026 Blogging Income Survey — Real Data
Average earnings by blog age
Year 0–1
The Ghost Town Phase
Most blogs earn nothing in year one. Google sandbox, no authority, no traffic. ← This is where I am right now. The key is not quitting here.
Years 1–3
The Traction Phase
(cite index=”39-1″>26% of bloggers start earning money within 6 months. AdSense approvals, first affiliate commissions, Pinterest traffic starting to compound.
Years 5–10
The Growth Phase
(cite index=”38-1″>Average earnings jump to $2,621 per month at 5–10 years. Multiple income streams running. SEO authority built. Mediavine or Raptive ads replacing AdSense.
10+ Years
The Established Phase 🏆
(cite index=”38-1″>Veteran bloggers earn an average of $5,624 per month. Top performers earn $10,000–$100,000+. But this tier represents a tiny fraction of all bloggers.
(cite index=”40-1″>28% of bloggers earn under $10 per month, and only about 17% earn over $50,000 per year. The numbers look small — until you realize the bloggers who make real money are almost all in the 3+ year category who didn’t quit in year one.
Your Niche Matters More Than You Think
Not all blogs are created equal. A personal finance blog and a lifestyle blog can have the same traffic — and earn completely different amounts.
Same Traffic. Very Different Income.
💰
Personal Finance
High RPM · Affiliate commissions · Financial products
💻
Online Business / Blogging
High intent · Tools & courses affiliate income
✈️
Travel
Lower RPM · High traffic needed
(cite index=”38-1″>Personal finance blogs have average earnings four to five times higher than lifestyle or travel blogs. A personal finance blog could hit $8,000/month with roughly 17,000 visitors — while a travel blog might need 100,000 visitors for the same result. Niche choice is a multiplier on everything else you do.
The 4 Tiers of Blogging Income — Which One Are You Aiming For?
The 4 Tiers of Blogging Income
Tier 0 — Ghost Town
$0–$100/mo
Most blogs live here forever. Either the niche is wrong, the content isn’t getting found, or — most commonly — the blogger quit too early. This is the valley of despair every successful blogger had to cross.
Tier 1 — Side Hustle
$500–$2,000/mo
(cite index=”36-1″>Most successful solo bloggers land here within 18–24 months of consistent work. The mix typically: 30–50% affiliate, 20–40% sponsored content, 10–20% display ads. This is a real second income — enough to matter.
Tier 2 — Full-Time Income
$3,000–$10,000/mo
(cite index=”39-1″>24% of bloggers are making a full-time income within 2 years of starting. Usually requires 50,000+ monthly sessions for premium ad networks like Mediavine, plus established affiliate relationships.
Tier 3 — Business Level
$10,000+/mo
(cite index=”35-1″>Income at scale: $1,000–$15,000/month is common for top 1% blogs in profitable niches. Multiple revenue streams, email list, digital products, possibly a team. This is a real business, not a side hustle.
My Situation — Month 5 Update
I’m going to be specific, because vague blogging income posts are useless.
lazydadlife.com — Month 5 Reality Check
Main Traffic Source
Singapore 🇸🇬
The data says I’m exactly where I should be for month 5 in a personal finance blog. The blogs that make real money are almost always the ones still publishing at month 18. That’s the only number I’m focused on right now.
How to Actually Speed It Up
There’s no shortcut to blogging income — but there are smarter paths.
What Actually Accelerates Income
✓Pick a high-RPM niche (personal finance beats lifestyle)
The multiplier effect on every visitor is 4–5x higher in finance
✓Publish consistently — quantity compounds
100+ posts is the threshold where income becomes consistent in 2026
✓Use Pinterest from day one — don’t wait for Google
Pinterest sends traffic while you’re still in Google sandbox. My Singapore readers came from Pinterest.
✓Add affiliate links early — Amazon Associates + hosting
You can apply to Amazon Associates after just a few posts. Every relevant link is potential income.
✗Don’t obsess over AdSense in year one
AdSense RPM is $1–3 per 1,000 views. You need 30,000+ monthly visitors before it becomes meaningful income.
The honest bottom line
“Most blogs make $0. Some make $500/month. A few make $5,000+. The difference isn’t talent or luck — it’s who kept publishing after month 6 when nothing was happening yet.”
✓ Year 1 avg: $0–$205/month
✓ Year 5–10 avg: $2,621/month
✓ Finance niche = 4–5x multiplier
✓ 100+ posts = income threshold
